Happy Thanksgiving

Anyone who knows us knows that we tend to make our holidays into whatever appeals to us, rather than what is ‘typical’ or ‘expected’. There have been years Thanksgiving meant a train trip into the mountains, a soak in the hot springs, followed by a Chinese meal in our hotel room. Other years we stayed home, but cooked anything but traditional Thanksgiving fare. This year we decided a turkey dinner actually sounded pretty good.

It was a most excellent choice. Kieran came over Thursday and spent the night, so we had two days of cooking, eating and generally hanging out together.

We divided up the cooking duties on Thursday – Michael did vegetables and turkey, I did stuffing and sauces, and Kieran made the pumpkin pie. Everything turned out perfectly.

On Friday we took advantage of a warm, sunny day before the predicted snow and cold to plant some bulbs and two varieties of garlic, and followed that up with Thanksgiving II – on the patio this time.
